The soul of the Alps
in the heart of the High Sierra
Savoie | Sa-ˈvwä | Sah-VWAH
At Savoie, we’ve saved a seat at the table for everyone. We bring the culinary traditions and design sensibility of Mont Blanc to Lake Tahoe. Seasonal ingredients, exceptional wines and attentive service meet in a setting comfortable and luxurious in equal measure.
Our Story
Savoie begins with the Sullivan family and their decades-long love for the High Sierra. Craig and Maureen Sullivan spent summers on the lake and winters on the slopes, with regular visits to the historic Pfeiffer House for a shared fondue. Over the years, they passed their affection for Tahoe down to their children and grandchildren, including Mark Sullivan and his wife Alison — chefs who met in the kitchen at The Village Pub, a Michelin-star restaurant for 15 years and counting.
When a “for sale” sign appeared on the old Pfeiffer House, Maureen — who always had a soft spot for the place — couldn't let it go. Its Alpine interiors and storied history evoked the cuisine and culture of the Savoie region that Mark and Alison had long admired. For the Sullivan family, it was a chance to deepen their roots in their beloved Tahoe. For Mark and Alison, an opportunity to realize a dream and to raise their children in a place already woven into the family's story.
Come to the Chalet
Savoie pays homage to the charm of the original building, right down to the old stone fireplace. Step into the generous bar and you'll find the high ceilings and sturdy beams of an Alpine chalet, mountain sun streaming through windows and skylights. Pull up a chair for an après-ski bite and the easy conviviality that makes it hard to leave. A little further on, a dining room lined with mohair banquettes opens through glass doors into an intimate space facing the Truckee River. A spiral staircase descends to a one-of-a-kind wine cave, and beyond it waits an outdoor terrace made for a summer afternoon and an icy pilsner or citron pressé. Located just outside Tahoe City, Savoie sits minutes from the shore of the Lake and an easy drive from Alpine, Palisades, Northstar and Homewood.
